GPEE RECEIVES THE DATA QUALITY CAMPAIGN ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD
WASHINGTON (October 1, 2015)—The Data Quality Campaign (DQC) today presents the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education (GPEE) with the Advocacy Organization of the Year Award. The award recognizes outstanding work by a national or state-based nonprofit organization in promoting effective data use in the service of students.
“DQC values the incredible work GPEE has done, bringing together a wide range of community partners to ensure Georgia’s student data policies were reasonable, sustainable, and in the service of students,” said Aimee Rogstad Guidera, president and CEO of the Data Quality Campaign.
Georgia worked tirelessly to create an education data system that transforms how thousands of district leaders, educators, and parents across the state access and use data to make the best decisions for students. All of this was in jeopardy when Georgia Senate Bill 167 was introduced in January 2014.
By engaging with community leaders and building a broad base of support for the value of data to improve student success, GPEE defeated Georgia Senate Bill 167. It then helped to develop and pass a new law that protects student privacy and promotes the use of data to improve student achievement.
“The bill was defeated; our data system preserved,” said Steve Dolinger, president of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education. “Our efforts saved the momentum that GPEE and others have worked so tirelessly for. Georgia students are now being offered an education that will ensure their competitiveness on state, national and global stages.”
