Data Quality Campaign Welcomes New Chairman and Members to Board of Directors

WASHINGTON—October 31, 2013—The Data Quality Campaign (DQC) announces the appointment of a new board chairman and two board members.

Former Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna, a longtime leader in protecting consumer privacy, joins as Chairman of DQC’s Board. He replaces National Math and Science Initiative Chairman Tom Luce.

He is joined on the board by Laura Hansen, a top Nashville Metro Public Schools administrator, and Paul Bell, a business executive. 

“As we move forward with our goal to ensure safe, effective education data use to see that all students graduate college and career ready, we are pleased these leaders are willing to serve and allow us to tap into their great expertise,” said Aimee Rogstad Guidera, founder and executive director of the Data Quality Campaign. 

“It’s an honor to serve on the DQC Board of Directors, because it is now widely understood that effective use of quality data is crucial to propelling our nation’s children toward success,” said Rob McKenna, chairman of the executive Board of the Data Quality Campaign. The new appointments increase the number of Board members from nine to eleven.

The new Board members bring deep experience in education, law, and business to Data Quality Campaign’s Board of Directors:

Rob McKenna, Chairman | Partner; Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP

Rob McKenna, partner at Orrick, Herrington Sutcliffe LLP and national co-chair of its Public Policy Group, served two terms as Washington’s seventeenth Attorney General. As the state’s chief legal officer, he directed more than 500 attorneys and more than 600 professional staff in the nation’s fifth-largest state attorney general’s office. McKenna is the former president of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). The father of four children, McKenna also serves as the executive vice president of the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts.

Laura Hansen |Director, Information Management and Decision Support; Metro Nashville Public Schools

Laura Hansen serves as the director of information management and decision support at Metro Nashville Public Schools. In addition Hansen serves on the Operating Board for Alignment Nashville, the Board of Directors for the Exchange Family Center, and a number of city leadership councils. She also chairs the Metro Nashville Public Schools Technology and Data Transformational Leadership Group and the Nashville Promise Neighborhood Data Workgroup.

Paul D. Bell | Operating Partner, Lead Edge Capital

Paul Bell served as senior operating executive at Dell from 1996 to 2012, where he developed and deployed business unit strategies. In his various leadership roles he was responsible for the development and delivery of hardware, software, and services platforms to educational institutions from K–12 through higher education.  He and his team implemented innovative projects to integrate technology into learning environments and improve student achievement in China, Brazil, Western Europe, and North America.  Bell lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and three daughters.

Launched in 2005 by 10 founding partners, the Data Quality Campaign became an independent nonprofit organization in 2011 and leads a partnership of nearly 100 organizations.
