The Data Quality Campaign (DQC) is a national nonprofit policy and advocacy organization that envisions a world where data policy is used to drive systemic change, economic mobility, and student success. Compensation, Benefits, and Hybrid/Flexible Work Environment

  • Starting salary range of $175,000 to $195,000, noting that the compensation offer will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience.

  • We provide a flexible work environment where DC based employees convene in person a few times a month. We ask that employees based outside of the DC Metro area be available to come to DC approximately once a month.

Position Summary

The Vice President, Finance and Administration will provide strategic leadership across financial and operational areas of the organization. This position is directly responsible for functions relating to the business, financial, operations, and outcomes of DQC and ensures that the “business side of things” are aligned with DQC’s vision, mission, strategic plan, goals, and objectives. The Vice President, Finance and Administration must display incisive business and financial acumen in leading DQC to financial success.

As a strategic leader, you connect the dots across ideas in support of DQC’s strategic plan and demonstrate an entrepreneurial focus and bottom-line orientation. You help DQC think of new ways to plan, organize, and execute our financial work, including taking a forward-thinking approach to streams of revenue and investment opportunities. Work includes collaborating with the Board and other executive leaders and leading efforts to align financial goals and outcomes to the mission and vision.

As a subject matter expert in accounting, auditing, internal controls and tax reporting, you possess strong technical and deep functional skills in the areas of finance, accounting, budgeting, auditing, and taxation. Attention to detail is a strong part of your wheelhouse. Work includes all aspects of accounting systems and records, federal and state tax filings, and working with vendors on annual financial audits.

As a confident team leader, you lead with clarity, collaboration and strategy in mind. You demonstrate flexibility and can take projects from ambiguous ideas to impactful results. Work includes coaching and managing a team of professionals, collaboratively leading change management efforts across the team and organization and serving as the go-to person for all things financial.

As a board liaison and internal collaborator, you are a natural connector and networker, adept at making meaningful connections, bringing people together, and championing ideas. You act as a thought partner to all DQC staff and the Board. Work includes serving as a liaison to the Board and the Board finance committee, as well as serving as the Board Treasurer, and supporting your immediate team and all teams at DQC with all things finance.

As an expert in budgeting, business financial modeling and reporting, you are excited about nonprofit finance and working with passionate nonprofit professionals to be a powerful voice for positive change Work includes budget projections, trend analysis and reporting, budget management, income and expenditures tracking and review, as well as financial reporting and performance.

As a leader in contracts and grants, you can analyze complex financial data and communicate results in a clear and concise manner to various audiences. Work includes managing contractor and grant funder relationships, reviewing contracts, and soliciting legal advice as needed.

As an executor of payroll, vendor 1099 reporting, and plan sponsor of the 401k retirement plan, you understand the importance of generally accepted accounting principles, IRS regulations, and FASB standards and how to apply them in the non-profit sector. You possess expertise in MS Office Suite (especially Excel) and QuickBooks. Work includes managing payroll functions for the entire organization, tax reporting and compliance, and leading all aspects of DQC’s 401k sponsor strategy and retirement education.

As a risk manager and treasurer, you identify opportunities to overcome barriers and challenges while ensuring organizational functionality and monitoring cash accounts and flow. Work includes managing cash flow and reconciliation, forecasting, targeting, and risk assessment.

In partnership with external organizations, contractors and vendors, you act as a strategist in the areas of real estate, personal property, and investment, you help DQC think of new ways to plan, organize, and execute our financial work. Work includes investment strategy and policy, overseeing leases and systems, and leveraged expertise to manage the organizational investor portfolio.

Prerequisite Experience:

  • In order to be successful in this role, candidates will be expected to have a minimum of at least 12 years of progressive nonprofit experience, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work in advanced accounting, finance, investments, tax, auditing, and budgetary functions within a nonprofit setting.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • CPA certification

  • Experience managing investment portfolios
