Quality science education can give students content knowledge and analytic skills that will open up many career pathways. And access to data about students’ science education opportunities, outcomes, and instruction gives parents and families a more complete picture of the education their students are receiving. To ensure that parents have and can understand this information, state policymakers should ensure that science education data is publicly available and easy for parents to find and use. This report details the importance of reporting on science education data and, based on DQC’s annual review of state report cards, shares how states are currently making science education data available on their state report cards.
